Oddisee contributed new beats for the 2005 re-release of SoulStice's solo debut, titled as North by Northwest: Solid Ground, and the following year, SoulStice and Haysoos formed the socially conscious, erudite duo Wade Waters. Department of Defense, the soulful MC came into contact with other local artists, like MC Haysoos and producer Oddisee, through performances at open mics and small shows. After he relocated to the Maryland/Washington, D.C., area for a full-time position with the U.S. In 2003, he released his solo debut, North by Northwest, while completing his master's program at UIUC. Nevertheless, the group dissolved once many of the students graduated thus, SoulStice founded Wandering Soul Records to launch his solo career. Llorens' studies in electrical and computer engineering were extremely useful for the group, allowing him to handle more complex sound engineering tasks.
Along with his classmates, he helped put together a crew of MCs and producers on campus named Banarnar, which mainly served as a creative apparatus for friends to make and record music. By 1993, he was writing his own rap lyrics, and by 1997, his freshmen year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), he was an on-stage performer. He was initially inspired to rap in the seventh grade when a friend played a tape by Chicago native Twista (known then as Tung Twista). Ashley Llorens was born in Southside Chicago, but his family eventually moved a little bit further south into the suburban neighborhood University Park, where Llorens grew up. Doors will open for Soulstice 2022 on Friday 4pm for an extra evening of music blasting from our speakers, this year until 3am. They also recorded a CD called Mountain Chase, thanks to Jeff Kepple who produced and recorded the album.Consistently using soul-inflected hip-hop productions as his platform, alternative rapper SoulStice accumulated dozens of accolades from critics and underground hip-hop fans alike for his perceptive, highly literate, and concept-driven albums. The quartet excelled very quickly and soon were playing at many weddings and gigs around Plumas County.

Johnene learned how to play the viola so she could allow Holly and Kelsey to be first and second violinists with Chris Retallack holding down the low end on the cello. That summer the String Beings started rehearsing together as a string quartet. Johnene McDonald explains, “These young musicians were the only three children that ever practiced in the whole group and were getting very bored and ready to quit the ensemble.” To keep them in the Orchestra their instructor, Johnene McDonald, made them a promise that “if they would keep playing in the group until summer break, she would start a string quartet just for them.”
At the time, they were playing in Face the Music Studio’s Elementary String Orchestra named Pulling Strings. Soulstice Strings is a reunion of a String Quartet originally named the String Beings formed when members Holly Sternberg, Kelsey Kepple, and Chris Retallack were fifth- and sixth-graders at Quincy Elementary School.
